Advanced Diagnostics for Pets

When your pet isn’t feeling well, fast and accurate answers are essential. At Groves Veterinary Clinic, our advanced diagnostic tools help us quickly identify underlying conditions so we can begin the right treatment without delay. From in-house laboratory testing to digital imaging and more targeted evaluations, we provide comprehensive pet diagnostics in Port Charlotte to give your furry loved one the best care.

In-House Laboratory Testing

Our on-site laboratory allows us to run many tests in just minutes, giving our team immediate insight into your pet’s health. We can perform complete blood counts, chemistry panels, thyroid screenings, bile acids, cortisol levels, urinalysis, fecal exams, and more. We also use cytology for skin and ear issues, fine needle aspirates for masses, and specialized tests such as heartworm and tick-borne disease screening. For more complex cases, we partner with outside labs to ensure your pet gets the answers they need.

Digital Radiology (X-Rays)

Our digital radiology equipment produces clear, detailed images that help us detect conditions like fractures, bladder stones, tumors, or swallowed foreign objects. Radiographs are also valuable in pregnancy management, allowing us to safely see the size and number of puppies or kittens expected. While most pets remain still during x-rays, some may need light sedation or anesthesia to ensure clear, accurate images.

Ultrasound Imaging

Ultrasound is a safe, painless, and non-invasive way to view your pet’s internal organs in real time. This technology helps us evaluate heart conditions, identify obstructions, detect cysts, tumors, and stones, and even monitor pregnancy. Since ultrasounds use sound waves instead of radiation, no sedation is required, and you’re welcome to be present while Dr. Groves explains the findings.

Eye Pressure Testing (Ocular Tonometry)

Using a specialized tonometer, we can quickly and painlessly measure eye pressure to detect glaucoma or eye infections early—conditions that, if left untreated, could threaten your pet’s vision.

Blood Pressure Monitoring

With our petMap doppler system, we can easily and accurately measure your pet’s blood pressure—just like in human medicine. This painless test helps us diagnose and manage hypertension, detect low blood pressure, and monitor circulation during surgery or treatment of critically ill patients. Blood pressure monitoring is especially important for senior pets, making it a regular part of wellness and semi-annual exams.
